In order to obtain exemption from the payment of the ticket for specialist services, those who are eligible must ask their doctor, at the time of the prescription, to indicate the exemption condition on the prescription. The prescribing doctor obtains the corresponding exemption code from the national list of those exempt on the basis of income, provided by the Inland Revenue through the portal of the Sistema Tessera Sanitaria. 

How can I apply for a ticket exemption by pathology? 

Exemption for chronic and disabling illnesses, as well as exemption for rare diseases, must be requested from the relevant Asl (local health authority) by presenting the medical certificate attesting to the presence of the disease, together with the health card.
