The Accident and Emergency department is the service dedicated to medical emergencies and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

When to go to the Accident and Emergency department:

  • when there is a serious risk to your health if you are not receiving medical treatment;

  • when there is traumatic injury with acute symptoms that interfere with normal activities.

How to access?

The patient is received in Triage by an experienced and trained nurse, who is able to assess the urgency and priority of intervention, assigning a colour-coded access code to highlight the seriousness of the case. Patients are admitted according to their degree of priority. The criticality codes are divided into four categories, identified by the following colours:

Code red: is assigned to the most serious, life-threatening cases, for which access is immediate and there is no waiting time.
Code yellow: it is assigned to patients with at least one altered vital parameter (respiratory, circulatory, neurological function). The staff of the Emergency Department strives to reduce waiting times to a minimum.
Code green: it is assigned to patients who do not require an urgent medical service. The patient is attended after the yellow codes.
Code white: it is assigned to patients with mild diseases that should and could be solved by the family doctor. Patients are still attended, but only after the most urgent cases have been resolved by the staff.
