Outpatient specialist care consists of all the diagnostic and therapeutic services provided by specialist doctors (or in any case under their clinical responsibility) in outpatient clinics and laboratories in the territory or in accredited public or private hospitals. 

Specialist care is divided into: 

  • instrumental diagnostic activity: carried out using equipment, with or without the use of radiation (X-ray, CT, MRI, scintigraphy, ultrasound, ECG, EEG, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, arthroscopy, audiometry, etc.); 
  • laboratory: clinical chemistry; microbiology; virology; pathological anatomy and histology; genetics; immunohaematology; 

Clinical activity, divided into: 

  • specialist examinations: first examination, examination to supplement the first, follow-up examination, multidisciplinary examination; 
  • therapeutic activity: radiotherapy, dressing, suturing, injection, infiltration, incision, surgical activity, dialysis, dental treatment, application of plaster casts, psychotherapy, etc; 
  • rehabilitation: educational therapy, cognitive disorder training, motor rehabilitation, speech rehabilitation, cardiorespiratory rehabilitation, etc.
